Lindgren appointed to spearhead $7B Talise Development
Gene Lindgren has been appointed the development manager of Talise by Kandy Walker, CEO of SE Legacy Development, LLC. Lindgren resigned as president and CEO of the Laredo Economic Development Corporation in May.
On May 15, the Walker family held a groundbreaking ceremony to kick off the $7 billion multi-use development project Talise.
The 13,000-acre project is situated north of Laredo at the intersection of I-35, US-83 and Texas 255. It features a mixed-use development that will include industrial, commercial, residential land use and a cargo airport.
13,000-acre development outside Laredo set to redefine nation's busiest port
A 13,000-acre development is taking shape outside Laredo that will deliver thousands of new homes, commercial and industrial space – even an airport. The project, called Talise, is underway. It will boast a development lifespan about 30 years long and cost just shy of $7 billion.
Talise is a legacy project said Kandy Walker, the property owner, but not one she had intended to develop herself. "I wanted my children to develop it, not me," Walker told the Business Journal. "We were just going to get the land ready — but then, things got moving really quickly."
Walker, whose family has deep roots in Laredo's ranching history, said the project is also a way to give back to her community.
The project's timing coincides with Laredo being named the busiest U.S. port. The Port of Laredo boasts 6% of all trade in the nation, spelling international manufacturing and logistics opportunities for South Texas.
